View Full Version : LR180 leadpipe vs. others

I tried out a Bach Strad LR180S-37 today in comparison to the Strad 180S-37 and found that the finger hook on the LR's leadpipe was placed further back than all the other instruments. The configuration forced a wider grip near the valves and was very uncomfortable to play. (I have small hands). Other than that, I loved the LR's free-blowing response and overall sound. If it wasn't for the uncomfortable grip I'd consider it the perfect trumpet for me. Nonetheless, I left it at the store and came home empty handed again. Are all the LR's made that way or did I happen upon an unusual one?

I've got a LR180-37 and it's the same as the other Bachs I have. An option would be to get it moved. Any competent repair place should be able to move it for about $10 to $20. It will leave a mark where it was moved from. You can either polish the area and get it close to the silver finish or get the pipe replated.
