I know nothing about trumpets, but my father in law has asked me to sell his. Its a Bach Stradivarius , its shows a serial number of ML 16287...it appears to be in ok shape will a few dings in it ...has original case and mouth piece ....was wondering if this is worth anything and if so where would be a good place to get it appraised and or sell it to get a fair price for it ....any help would be great ...thanks in advance ..

Thanks for the post. Here's some more information about your inlaws trumpet (cornet).

What you have is a Bach Strad. cornet, most likely mfg. in the late 1950's (1958-1960). I would expect the bell to read Mt. Vernon (mfg. at the time period of when Bach was manufacturing in Mt. Vernon, NY). With regards to value, cornets have historically not sold for as much as Bach trumpets - and from the condition (bent leadpipe?, some laquer wear) I would guess $600-$700. HOWEVER, please read the thread I have on looking for values. Using ebay, advanced search for past auctions is a great tool to see comparable Bach's being sold...

Hope that helps you out...

Here's the link you should read before selling, or placing a value on your horn.
