from my email today

I don't know much about my Bach, but am looking for information. It is marked Stratavarious Model 25 on the bell, Vincent Bach Corporation, Elkhart, Ind. On the valve casing, marked L 18389 on one side and on the other, V. Bach, Mt Vernon N.Y. USA. It is gold and silver and I know it was refinished in the 1990's. Has wear and some reddish spots in the finish. Where can I get more info, send pics, etc? Thank you for any information!

This ia large bore, and the serial number would indicate the valve section was built in the late 1950's in Mt. Vernon era. The bell however is marked Elkhart. Most likely this was an more recent addition from the Elkhart factory. That transition happened in the mid 1960's. My guess this was an owner addition.

That said there are urban legends, that there were still left over parts moved to the new factory and some horns were built using parts stilol left over from Mt. Vernon. Not sure about that myself.

Hope that helps.
