I would like to purchase a bach horn for my daughter. She is currently playing a Yamaha and graves a better tone. I am a celloist so no expert on brass. I am searching for a preowned instrument and looking for guidence on whether to buy a TR200 or a 180. I have heard opinions such as the intermediate horns are not much better than the student horns sonically and a 180 would be a better investment. Please advice. Any input on vintage would be great as well.

I would not spend the money on the TR200, basically a student line trumpet.

The 180 is a good horn for a high schooler, once they have made that decision to keep up with it through high school... You can find good deals out there on used ones. Would not pay more than 1000-1100 for a used one. The 180-37 is the most common model out there andwould be a good choice.

I second the recommendation Nfld a 180-37; I personally like the look of the laquar, but kids almost always like siver better (and a gold mouthpiece)
