from my email today

Hello I'm trying to find out as much as I can about my trumpet it's a model 6G Elkhart I was told it was a prototype and it plays with a Chicago sound. The trumpet is very heavy in weight and plays in perfect tune quite.

I'm not 100% sure, but would guess this is similar to model 7 (197), but with a 6 leadpipe with a gold brass (darker sound) bell... This would make this horn very dark in sound.

I've not seen a model like this previously, so I'm not sure about the "prototype" description. WHere did you buy it? from a local shop in Elkhart?

When I purchased this trumpet I was told that the seller was employed as an engineer at Bach and helped created this horn. Bach was going through a strike and decided to scrap the project. The engineers were instructed to destroy the three prototype they had made. Because he had put so much worked in to this project he could not bring himself to destroy them all and keep one. I aquired it at an auction near Elkhart with the above story attached to it.
