I just acquired a Horton special made by Frank Holton Co. Chicago. trombone with the following markings. Wm. G. Love. Sherman clay and co. San Francisco. On the bell. Ser# 80522 on the hand slide, below ser# it has York and Son. And below that an "M" stamped on the slide. It looks to me like it is made out of silver not brass. If you can provie me with any history on this instrument I would greatly appreciate it my email is rythmstyx66@yahoo.com and if you have an approximate value on it can you let me know? Thank you Jose Lopez Chico ca.

You actually have two different brand/models. Based upon your serial number, if it was a Holton slide it would have been mfg. in Elkhorn, WI, not Chicago. My guess is that the slide section was actually a York trombone, matched with the bell of the Frank Holton...

Your horn was carried by one of the best known music stores in San Francisco in the 1920's. In fact they are still in business.
