Horn Review: This horn is for serious players. I don't know how Yamaha did it, but they made a horn that is better than a Schilke for big band, better than a Martin for combo, and MUCH better than a Strad for symphonic/solo work. I knew this horn was special when I played a jazz combo gig and, at the time, thought my sound was kind of weak and dull. Then, I heard the recording and I sounded even better and stronger than my mind's sound concept! That is the only con - this horn is so potent and focused, you don't perceive your own sound accurately from your end and, therefore, your accuracy may suffer a little if you are not thoroughly prepared. I practice with earplugs sometimes and that really helps. Valves and slides are awesome, but tight. I use Blue Juice for the valves and WD40 for all the slides. I can't imagine a better horn and I've played about 50 different horns.
