Holton ST 747 Soloist trumpet model

I had a Holton ST 747 trumpet in college in the 1970's - purchased new in 1972 - which was a marvelous horn. I sold it after college, a move for which I've kicked myself countless times since. So I'm delighted to have just picked another one up from ebay after years of looking.

Judging from the frequency of appearing on ebay (I've seen one in ten years of looking!) there were not many made. I've seen reports of a 516,xxx serial number (1972) and a 524,xxx serial number (1973).

I'm wondering whether anyone has any information about this model... artists who used it, how many were made, etc.

    Thanks

  2. Don't know much about this model. Here's the description in their literature in the early 1970's.

ST 747 Trumpet. The soloist's special. A .459 bore and rose brass bell give this model a brilliant lyrical coloratura quality that's unique. Perfect horn for the jazz player.
