    Question Bells

How do bell sizes and taper affect the way a trumpet sounds?

    Deon,
I am in no way an expert on this topic, but I will share what I think I have learned from personal experience. I have two Blessing ML1s with 5" diameter bells. These trumpets produce a darker more mellow sound than what I get from my Bach Stradivarius 180S37 and vintage 1952 Blessing Super Artist. The latter two horns have smaller diameter bells. Please understand that bell taper probably has more to do with effect upon sound than diameter.
    Jim
