Based on a design concept by Paul Nelson of Wisconsin, USA the Eclipse White Lightning was built in under 4 weeks entirely at our Dunstable UK workshops.

The trumpet features a basic Eclipse design with the unique bell crook tuning slide but the bell/leadpipe bracing is replace by bracing these parts directly to the valve block only. The design is enhanced by use of personalized sheet bracing at the leadpipe and bell crooks.

Pros: Free-blowing, excellent intonation
Cons: None

This is a very free-blowing, very flexible trumpet. The intonation is amazing. The double coating of lacquer makes the horn very warm and mellow (tone-wise). This horn cannot be overblown...it can take all the air you can give it.

This is a tremendous soloist horn. The Bauerfine valves (German manufacturer) are superb and on the same high-level as Getzen (maybe even a little better).

Everyone who has played this horn has made the same three comments:

1) Very flexible.

2) Well balanced.

3) Free-blowing and open.

Pros: free blowing
Cons: intonation, price, service

I bought this horn from a friend of a friend who bought it new. Like most new additions to trumpet manufacture, Eclipse have alot to offer. However,it is not a great horn. It is free blowing. The sound it produces is full. The intonation is not good. I need to use alternative fingerings for alot of what I play on this horn. I have played twelve other Eclipse horns this year and the overall result is no better.

I had a run in with Leigh Mckinney from Eclipse earlier this year after I purchased a S/H Olds Super from him off Ebay. The horn needed two of it's valves re-aligning, and after two months red rot (which their workshop had obviously just polished out for the sale) was showing through all over the leadpipe. His response was offensive. I work as a full time pro internationally. I would never affiliate with any manufacturer. I have always played an Olds Recording. Mabe, just maybe, all these new-on-the-scene brass manufacturers think they know better than people like Zigmant Kanstul and all the classic designers. Maybe, just maybe, they still pander to excitement rather than total quality. If you are a trumpet player who wants to switch horns just to get a new experience, then try the Eclipse range. It will temporarily satisfy. However, the Eclipse range will never earn the respect they already think they deserve.

Not a stayer, has no soul. Very ordinary compared to other tried and trusted brands.
