The B3 has a big bell (160mm, 90% copper) and has the darkest and warmest sound of all three models. Due to it's big bell the sound spreads more.

Pros: slotting and sound
Cons: no waterkey on 1st valve, trigger 3rd valve too far away

A really great horn, for a decend price. Comes with an extra tuning pipe.

Pros: Supirior quality. Good valve action.
Cons: Trigger not ideal placed

I bougth mine with the palladium finish. Looks good. Sounds not as dark as the gold finished models.

Pros: Huge, warm sound.Slotting and intonation.
Cons: Less projection, but then you don't want the B3....

I used to blow Courtois. Then did a review of all available flugelhorns. My shortlist was: Van Laar, Kanstul (red bell) and Bach. The Bach was flexible but did'n't have enough sound. The Kanstul had a slight bit better playability in the upper register, but with enough air I could make everything I want on the Van Laar.

This comparison was done on a standard model. Then I went to Margraten, where Hub has his shop. In a day I tried about 10 horns with different leadpipes and finishes. Some small ajustments were done on my request, and my perfect horn was born.
