Actually my Dad bought me this horn in 1969, after growing tired of my HN White Cornet, and Olds Ambassador in High School. I couldn't believe the power this horn could display. I mean, Al Hirt type power!! Valves were fast and smooth although for my taste now, as a pro, they were sprung a little heavy. I kick myself for selling this instrument every day. Needed rent money, out of college in the 80's. Sold it in Denver to a 12 year old beginner girl. Well actually her DAD for $200.00. What was I thinkin'....Sixth months later a buddy of mine playing horn in "BeeHive" asked me if I still had it. He would have paid $2000. Well, that's life aint it!! These days I'm sure most of you know how sought after this vintage S20Symphony is.
This horn will lead easily, and blend with your brass quintet when you back off. You may want to gear down mouthpiece a bit, of course, for the legit stuff, but for lead, anything goes.
Requires some lungs as it's an XL bore, but that's what accounts for its big dixieland sound. If you run across this horn, BUY IT WITHOUT HESITATION.
