Pros:

Excellent projection, easy slotting, nice satin finish, and increased range and endurance. Soft passages take less effort stay "clean" in tone and intonation.

Very thoughtful design. Jason H. does very credible work and the modification meets his promises. The nice thing is, that if you like your horn and are just wanting a bit more in every category, this can be achieved in most instances by Jason. He truly is interested in the end result that YOU want. He is backed up for a reason---these instruments are worth the $$ and the wait. I have the 909 with heavy caps, reversed lead pipe, reversed tuning slide, satin silver finish, and some custom engraving.

This horn by far is the best I've played, and I think I've touched quite a few horns (Yamaha, kanstul, Bach, Conn)! The intonation is 2nd to none, response, projection, ease of play, response, range, ...etc, etc.! You get the picture! I have the horn in a brushed silver and gold finish! It is sweet looking, but plays even better!!! If you haven't tried out a Harrelson modified horn, you should get your hands on one!!

I bouth the 909 (custom horn not the modification). It is the best horn i have ever played. Everyone who has played it loves it from jazz to classical players. The tone is full of overtones and can be changed for what setting I am in. It is so easy to play , and play in tune. The valves are the best I have ever felt. (they are kanstuls I beleive). I have played kansutls and did not like the valves but there go down smooth, come up quick, and dont clank. Slides work great and the craftsmanship is amazing. I can blend with a bach section but if I need to, it is no problem to overpower them because my sound is so much bigger than everyone elses. Check these horns out, and if you like your horn, get it modified!!!you wont regret it!

Grabbed a new 909, NOT the "Modification" at the ITG conference 6/07. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE HORN! (is that loud enough?). Still getting used to it, but oh my. I hear intonation (& less than perfect ones at that) that I never heard before on any of my dozen or so horns (new & vintage). Its amazing. My is a gorgeous combination of polished & satin raw brass, brushed copper & rose gold accents. Very pretty piece of "art", let alone its one dynamite horn. Very responsive dynamically...looks like a "jazz" horn, but still blends well. Get one, direct from Jason. He's excellent & fair & negotiates pricing.
