This is a review for the newer Bach B1110 Euphonium which resembles a King 2280. Bach is a fine brass company. Their Stradivarius trumpets and trombones are used by most serious students in middle through college level programs. However Bach doesn't make Stradivarius Euphoniums, This comes close though. The B1110 is one of the most responsive horns I've played on. It's beautiful tone makes it a great solo Instrument and it gives any low brass section a "warmer" sound. Since the euphonium has a wide variety of parts it plays (runs, low parts, solos, ect.), it can easily adapt from playing low, demonic chords to high flying, fluttering runs. Unlike the Yamaha, The Bach B1110 is Large shank so you can use large shank mouthpieces like the Bowman Models or the Mead models to make it sound more like a professional model horn. I can't really compare it to the Willson Intermediate horn but this is, in my opinion, the best Intermediate horn out there. Now there is some bad to the horn such as the Third Valve slide being spring loaded so you have to pull it out if you want to get those Db's and Gb's in tune. The bottom of the 4th Valve slide always falls out about 30% of the time you play. The Horn tends to collect water at a fast pace. Since most Intermediate horns have the little tube behind the valves for better precision, this horn just has a thumb ring which will cause some getting used to. The horn is fairly heavy, so it might give your arms a little bit of strain when doing a standing solo. Overall, this is one of the finest horns out there. I don't understand why Bach doesn't go all the way with compensating Euphoniums but only time could tell us if we will see Bach Euphoniums with the name Stradivarius and has a compensating system in the Future.
