The Schilke 21C was a experimental prototype built for the Chicago Symphony around 1993-1994. This horn is very much like the s22c trumpet Accodring to a schilke employee four of these horns were built. All utilize the large schilke X Valve casing. All differed in bell constuction. The one I am describing here has the Large "A" Bell that has been drawn twice to make it lightweight, with a soldered bell bead. Schilke was looking to improve on the S series of trumpets

I acquired this excellent trumpet from Dillon Music 3 years ago. It is my third C trumpet. I was leary of the trumpet, at first as i could not find any info about it. I contacted schilke regarding it, and promptly bought it. I was looking for more responsive C trumpet that was also very free blowing with centered sound. The sound that can be produced on this trumpet is with out equal, it is well suited to blasting out the opening of Mahler 5, or supporting the choir at church. Th sound is not to Bright or Dark on my setup. I play on a Custom Schilke 17 d4 with a schmidt backbore and a 19 throat.
The quality is what I have come to expect from schilke, Perfection. Excellent intonation, amazing responsiveness.
It is my opinion that Schilke should offer this model in their catalog. It retains the slightly darker centered sound of the s22c with the greater ease of reponse of the c and x series. The larger bell allows for a larger sound.
