The trumpet plays very nicly. The trumpet looks nice. The valves work well and the slides work well. I have played Symphony stuff and lead jazz on this trumpet. It worked well for all.

The 993 works well for every application. It is more versatile than some other Monette horns, and still works well with non-Monette players. While it is still the man behind the horn that makes the instrument go, a great instrument releases some of the concerns of performance with lesser instruments. This horn is without a doubt one of the two finest Bb trumpets I have played, superior to many other makes and models.
On the other hand, the case weights a ton (the double). It is not mass transit friendly.
Buy one new or used, and you won't be sorry.

I recently purchased the P3 or Prana 993 Bb and I am amazed at how easy this trumpet is to play. The tone is lively, rich and complex and responds like no other trumpet I have played. The fit and finish is perfect too and in brush gold this horn is really a work of art. Monette has done it again !

Granted this is not your fathers olds - The price reaches the law of diminishing returns around $3000.00 mark - It was hard to justify the price but I paid it off like a car note on my visa - Yes its cool , yes its nice , yes its an investment , but hey its still tubing and brass - If you have the means I highly suggest you pick one up -

I am a performance major at Indiana University. I have had this horn for just over two weeks, and I can tell you it is more than what I had hoped for. The sound is magnificent. Being able to play without adjusting for poor intonation on virtually every note allows me to forget about the horn and focus on the music. This is definitely not a good horn for a physical player. It responds best when the player is coming from a relaxed approach with good posture and superb breath support. The only issue I have had with this horn is that the F on top of the staff centers a bit high, but not any worse than a lot of other horns I have had, it is just more noticeable because everything else is so well in tume. Overall, for me, this investment was the absolute best choice I could have made, and is well worth the money and wait. Now I just have to save for a matching C!

On ebay 2 month ago with B6PRANA STC3 and a stc2 prana B4LDS1 mp and Monette BOX,
For an amateur like me this horn is a teacher ! very good response, open horn with open MP (stc3 prana) help to identify problems and correct them.
Great help to learn relaxed approach that you can transpose on every horn after with great progress.
intonation : great, needs no correction but the F is a problem for me especially when you play E and F after (E a bit down like all trumpets but not too and F too high need a correction, i'm not a pro player)

Cons:

Not the most versatile horn (blend is often difficult in a big band), price (but it's worth the debt)

I've played Monette mouthpieces for a few years and they are perfect. There is no better mouthpiece. Prior to buying the 993 I had a CG Conn V1 with a rose brass bell, it left a decent size mark on the back wall of most venues when I was using a combo of a B2 prana and B2L classic. Then when I got the 993, it blew the hall away. So much less effort is used to play these horns, so much so that you find yourself playing out of your own comfort zone more often. My only gripe so far has been that in a big band, the horn has been blowing over the other trumpeters (it's not just me either). Being a lead player (who usually reads the 2nd chart but unfortunately has been given the choppy parts) it's not a huge problem, but it often has a diffused, almost suffocating sound. Having said that, most of my playing is done in smaller ensembles, usually no bigger than a sextet. I recommend this horn to anyone who is stuck in a playing rut, who wants to improve their playing or get a unique sound.

Lack of versatility

First of all, I love this horn, but I'm selling it because it doesn't blend well in a section. It's very good for small, group, but there are so many better (and cheaper) horns out there. I'll use their mouthpieces forever, but their horns are all very certain in their applications. The light horns are lead trumpets, their heavy horns are small group performers. I love this horn, but it's going to move over for another horn... Schagerl!
