Pros: clear tone, brighter than Bach ro Conn, silver bell
Cons: hard to come by, expensive, heavy as compared to brass horn

Bright clear tone - very well made instument - purchased mine in 1964 - today valued over $1,500. Played in school & military bands including Vietnam. Still play at community events. Note: 1930's vintage horns have bottom springs on valves - tend to be 'stronger' than modern valves with springs in upper half.

Pros: Wonderful rich tone, superior construction, sterling silver bell, versatility of playing in two keys: A and B-flat
Cons: Rare, expensive, heavier than other trumpets

This is my favorite trumpet. It is an artist model with extravagant, beautiful engraving with gold highlights and trim. It is a 1927 horn in perfect condition and gets played regularly. Slots well and produces a tone that is distinct and beautiful. The horn stands out visually and vocally. It has some of the best built and smoothest valves I have played. King plating, both on the surface and on the valves, is of the highest quality. No plating is missing on my 8- year old horn, King's plating is superior. It is heavy but this is because of the quality construction and solid silver (not plated) bell. This trumpet can be played as an A or B-flat instrument that gives it a little more flexibility than other horns. It is a professional level horn that is easy to play but because of its value and care needs is not recommended for beginners.

Pros: musical and mechanical beauty
Cons: Because it is uncoated silver it tarnishes quickly

As an elderly trumpeter who has played and still owns a fairly large accumilation of fine trumpets and cornets, I still rate Dad's old Silvertone King as the very finest trumpet that I have ever played.
