This is a winner. Excellent valves, construction and finish. Produces a rich dark tone that is more interesting than most large bore horns.
Many people have asked if it was a Monette. There are some similarities to the way the horn looks, but I have never played a Monette, so I can't compare them to sounding similar.
This horn is heavy, but not as heavy as a Monette. I like the way I sound on the 'S' pipe, but with the right mouthpiece, the 'O' pipe can sound very interesting. Edwards leadpipes will also work with the Genesis.

Don't let anyone tell you that this horn can only be used for classical or jazz. Can be very versatile with the right mouthpiece. Very, very powerful in the upper register! Tone never thins out for me. Slotting is awsome with no problems reaching the upper register. Doesn't choke off like some other horns do. Very even and open blow using the "O" pipe. The "S" pipe was a bit too restrictive for me. Valves are "to die for" as they say! Very smooth as well as are the 1st and 3rd valve slides. I personally like the scratch gold finish which is 24K gold not 14K as listed. This was varified by Brett Getzen himself. As far as weight goes, yes, it is heavier than a conventional trumpet, but when you compare all the attributes, to me it was not a factor.

A wonderfully easy playing horn with a warm sound. You can play extremely soft or have a powerful sound. The valves are truely perfect. I like the tighter leadpipe. I highly recommend this horn.

The trumpet has a beautiful warm sound in the whole register, so in Jazz it is certainly a must. And it is true, Getzen realy makes one of the best valves in the world.
The trumpet also looks very nice , with the 24k gold it is realy a must to have

I bought my bright silver Genesis used off of Ebay. It was 1 month old and in pristine condition. The tone is incredible! Slightly on the dark side but lights up nicely when you push it. With the "O" leadpipe, it has a very easy upper register. It plays perfectly in tune and with perfect intonation. Slotting is very nice. Every note is right there. I have yet to use the 1st adn 3rd valve intonation aids. Even low D plays in tune. I cant say enough about the fit and finish. Pure perfection! The valves are like nothing I have ever played. They are so smooth and quiet. I have owned many getzens before with great valves but, the Getzen Custom Shop much do something special to these. It came with a beautiful deluxe leather case that offers a lot of protection adn storage. Getzen has out done themselves with this horn!

People will think that this dream trumpet costs $6000+,even though it costs only $2500.Exellent job,Getzen,keep up the great work!At this pace,you will soon outclass 99.99% of Yamahas.(if not all)

For all you Bach Strad lovers who think they're best,you must take a look at this.The momment you play this Getzen,you'll realize that it is superior in all respects to any stinken Bach.Shall we start with the tone?The Genesis' tone is warm and rich-while letting the edge come out when you push it.Perfect for jazz and classical music.And the Bach?Big and bright with no intention of shutting up-meaning that it will be great for "merry" and fast-paced music,but none else.Now let's go on to the quality.The Genesis,with its beaded gold plating,looks good enough to be sold in a jewellery store.All other companies-yes,including stinkin' ol' Bach-doesn't offer anything even close to it.Getzen's case looks luxurious.It also includes a leather pouch where you could put sheet music or small acessorise.The Bach,on the other hand,doesn't offer such luxury and/or versatality.As with all Getzens,their valves work like a dream.They are slick like butter.Again,the Strad isn't as smooth.It feels like as if you just poured sand over the valves.They also corrode away rather quickly.I'm saying that a Genesis is better than a Strad,but in reality,all Getzen custom models are than some crappy Bach.The company is a total disgrace to the famous composer.The Getzen also comes standard with a lifetime warranty.If they're brave enough to do that,you know they are confident that their trumpets are well made.For all pea-brains out there who read my review,quickly ditch the "name brand" you thought was best and get a Getzen.

This trumpet is the perfect instrument for jazz and classical music,but will other types,too.The Genesis comes with two interchangable leadpipes,making it extremely versatile.The valves,like all Getzen instruments,works amazingly smooth,unlike Yamaha's somewhat "klunky" valves.With its rich and mellow sound,it can be mistaken as a Monette,but cost alot less.I love the case.Unlike most companies,Getzen's case has a soft leather pouch,perfect for storing sheet music.This is one of the few companies to offer a gold-plated mouthpiece.The intonation is near-perfect,surpassing even Yamaha Xenos.The ONLY company who makes better trumpet is Monette,but consider the-very-rich-only $10,000+ price tag first.The Getzen,in comparison,only costs $2300.The trumpet also comes with a lifetime warranty,making sure that if something ever goes wrong,you'll be protected.If you don't have $2000+,consider the lower end custom models,which are just as good as a Bach Strad,if not better.People should now consider Getzens,which,in my opinion,is the true "name brand."

In the end,none other comes close to this superior trumpet.Bach,Yamaha, Jupiter,Amati,Conn,Schike,etc..........you name it.The only affordable trumpet that is better than this are those made by Edwards.(which are made in the Getzen Proshop anyways.)True,the Bach Strad and Yamaha Xeno is good,but not good enough.Areas where they fall short of the Getzen are quality, the case,intonation,the leadpipe,the bell,the valves,the warranty,the sound quality.........among many others.

Unlike the plain as pizza-without-topping Yamaha Xeno,this trumpet is very versatile and is capable of many tonal colors.Two interchangable leadpipes aid in this.Even the case is extremely useful,providing a soft pouch for sheet music.In the end,none within $3000 even comes close to it,which explains its great value.

Great horn! But has it's niche.. I own #13 of 50 with Rick Brawn signiture in hand brushed 24k gold finish. I use it primarially for when endurance and range is primary concern. I've also found that the unique tone stands out and is difficult to blend with other trumpets even other getzens. Some conductors have pointed this out to me and I have to agree.. But if there are 2 or more Genesis Customs in the section on the same part the problem seems to be remedied.. But,sometimes it's nice to stand out when it is allowed! Nevertheless,thats why I use an assortment of Getzen Customs trumpets.. Many different options are available.. The Genesis is a great horn to have close by when you become fatigued.. This horn will successfully pull you through those last epic charts ie. Crown Imperial, Universal Judgement,..ect.. Thanks... Jack!
