The King Legacy
Some of the biggest names in the music business have traveled with a King by their side. King instruments are known for their response and excellent intonation, as well as innovation that always tests the limits of an instrument. That’s what made King famous.

This is the best flugel I have ever owned, and I made the mistake of selling it! Smooth quick valves, smooth triggers. I had the silver plated version with the rose brass bell, which had a beautiful warm tone (I used a Wick 4FL). Great horn!

Pros:
Nice sound, very warm
Cons:
lack of upper and lower register
I like the horn, but it lacks the power that I really need. It has the nicest sound of any flugel that I have played. This is supposed to be a Pro Level horn-as far as I know, but it plays out of tune if I start to push it hard (unlike Yamaha) and it is extremely stuffy in the upper range above the staff. I can play a good strong F or F# at the top of the staff. Anything above that is really hard to get out and make sound good. I have tried many other mouthpieces, but have not found one better than the one that came with the horn. I thought the King mouthpiece was making the horn stuffy, but I am getting the same effect with much higher end mouthpieces.
Otherwise this is a good horn. I recommend it if you are an intermediate player and play a lot of flugel horn. If you are an aspiring jazz guy, you might want to look elsewhere. This horn will work for most classical players who need a good moderately priced flugel to use as a utility instrument. One other thing-this horn is very easy to hold. It is nice and big, so you don't have to crunch up your posture like you do when you play a trumpet or a smaller flugel.
