Pros: Excellent sound, fast valves, very flexible and versatile horn
Cons: None

I bought a used Bel Canto in mint condition that had been gold plated. I had played a couple of Bel Cantos several years ago and was always hoping I would find one in excellent shape for sale. However, they are very hard to find.

The horn has a wonderful sound that is somewhere in weight between a Bach Strad and a Benge 3X. It has a slightly more commercial sound, for lack of a better description, then a Strad. Maybe, a slightly brighter sound is a better description. However, the horns sound has a lot of core to it. I have found that the horn is very flexible and responsive. The valves are very quick and precise. This is one of the best, if not the best trumpet, I have ever played.

Pros: great sounding . Doc wanted Mr. Akright to make a new trumpet to sound like the old 1930 New York Bach
Cons: they do not make anymore .Plus hard to find

I bought a new 59 Greg Adams Bel Canto trumpet in 1994 for $1800.00 before CA. sales taxes It had the reverse lead pipe but I sold it for another Bel Canto 54 but in silver with the reverse lead pipe and it played lot more open and better sound I do not know if the silver was the reason or reverse Lead pipe.Even if the trumpet has the same model number they all have there own sound . Had Mr. Akright open up the lead pipe plus the inside rim of the main tuning slide that goes in to the lead pipe for a little less resistance which help alot.As you know we are always looking to find the best horn out there and the Bel Canto is one of them. Mr. Akright is stilll #1 in Trumpet repairs and a great horn maker rate the horn 5 stars His horn sound great from low F# to Double C
