Dennis Wick Mouthpieces

Description: Key Specifications:
Denis Wick enjoys an international reputation as a virtuoso trombonist and brass teacher. He was Principal Trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years and was for many years a professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Mr. Wick became interested in mouthpiece design when he evolved his own mouthpiece after many years of careful experimenting. In consultation with Britain's finest brass players, Denis Wick began to develop better mouthpieces, using both traditional and new ideas. The new heavytop models for trumpet, cornet, French horn and trombone use a completely different principle in not feeding back to the player the vibration of the instruments, transmitting all the energy through to the bell. This gives a much more powerful sound when needed, more security in the high register, and more control and focus in all registers.

Pros: great warm sound
Cons:

I don't know how much I paid for the mouthpiece, because it was given to me as a gift..

I use an RW4 cornet mouthpiece for my cornet.
It is a very deep cup, but it really gets a great GREAT cornet sound, very dark, and free blowing. I play 2nd Cornet in the Natural State Brass Band, and many other players are using the Dennis Wicks as their favorites.

I suggest buying one.

Pros: denis wick 4x/5X screamers
Cons: a little thin sounding - no options

I hate the DW cornet mouthpieces, they are awful. However, there are a few good trumpet mouthpieces for the high note fans that are good in that range.

Pros: great lows, fat high notes
Cons: takes a while to get used to the size

I used a DW 1C for high school/college lead for 5 years on a LT180 72 Strad. What a nice low register too. You can really accent with the space in there too. Oh it's a toilet bowl at first when you switch over to it, but I loved it. Now on a Marcinkiewicz 1/5b/v.

Pros: Great sound
Cons:

Use DW 2 on my cornet, DW2FL on my flügel and DW1C on my trumpet. All are really good mouthpieces. Have changed from Bach on all my instruments, and don't think I'll change back.

Pros: I enjoy playing the Denis Wick4 Cornet Mouthpiece
Cons: None

This DW4 is shorter than most American-style mouthpieces, but if fits nicely in my American-made shepherd's crook cornet receiver made by E.K. Blessing, Inc., of Elkhart, Indiana. The DW4 compliments my cornet by helping to provide a full, rich, traditional tone that cornets are known for. The Blessing 7-C provided with the B-141 Artist short-model cornet is an excellent silver finished mouthpiece with a "brassy" sound. I purchased the DW4 to compliment the full, mellow sound that says "cornet". The high quality silver finished DW4 mouthpiece is easy on the lips, requires little pressure, enables me to play between low and high registers. I can interpret soft and loud passages, while and attacking and slurring notes at will. The DW4 may not be for everyone, but I like it. The DW4 is not an expensive mouthpiece considering the quality of the traditional cornet sound it helps to achieve. I am very pleased to have this mouthpiece in my collection and would purchase it again. The Denis Wick firm was very helpful in answering m questions before I made my purchase.
