Pros: Plays great!
Cons: A bit screaming in the high register

Nice horn, pitches very good until A2. Above a bit screamy! neverless a great trumpet for playing ballads and smooth solo's! And of cours, the guys from "tower of power"are using it too!!

Pros: Great valves, very smooth and easy to play
Cons: tight wrap and it is hard to hold with larger hands

Very nice horn with incredibly smooth valves. It has a nice warm sound. The dark Selmer lacquer has a nice look to it. Intonation can be a little funky but not too bad. If you want a nice second horn then this would be a great horn to have.

Pros: with heavy caps, a superb blow
Cons: they don't make them any more

I have played a Selmer K-Modified, Model 20 for eight years. Before that, it was a Mt. Vernon Bach which developed a phobia for bass players who don't look before turning on stage. One OUCH and it was promptly retired, to be replaced by the cheaper Selmer which could afford to take the knocks and dings playing in a large latino group. When I first picked up the Selmer, I thought it sounded OK but just that. Then, one night I had left my main Bach 3C mouthpiece in another horn case and I had to play a gig with the Selmer 3S mthpc. It was then that the horn just opened up like a mansion. I started noticing things I liked about it. It had a nice blow and really clear and centered high register. And I could blow it all night and then some. Eventually I had some custom heavy bottom caps made. At that point it became a serious contender. The slotting went from mushy to superb, though you could still bend notes wildly and blow with a trilling vibrato. The mid and low registers just knocked me out. The sound just filled the room. So I started learning about this superb instrument. The valves are truly unique. The casings were assembled by some proprietary patented cold pressing process. This resulted in a valve assembly that would not shift, even after years. The proof is in the pudding. My K-Mod is 55 years old and the valves are perfect, with great compression. If you really study the way these K-Mods are constructed, you quickly realize they are a totally hand-made trumpet. There is detail and engraving even on the water keys. It is my understanding that the bells of these horns were also made in a unique process. I would strongly recommend this horn to anyone playing jazz or latino.

Pros: Great short throw valves, Colorful sound, easy to play
Cons: none

I had a 24B Lightweight. Easiest horn to play. Terrific for small combo but also works well with microphones if you need to scream over a loud band. Most undervalued horn in the market today!
